Did you enjoy the 1994 animated feature? If so, then you will love this! Why you ask? Because it is a shot for shot – song for song remake. They decided not to change the story or music up in any way. John Favreau even brought back James Earl Jones as Mufasa.
I have to be honest with you, this is not a live action remake, this in my mind is still an animated movie, just computer animated. Unless Favreau miraculously found the time to train a meerkat to talk, which he didn’t.
The voice acting is decent but no one talent stood out over the other. Not a single actor was able to capture the scale that Jeremy Irons brought to the original feature. I was excited to hear Donald Glover and Beyonce, yet their talents seemed to fall flat.
This movie is fun and the computer animation is absolutely fantastic. But at the end of the day, this movie is the exact same product we received 25 years ago just repacked in a new box. If you’re a fan of the original its worth seeing, but you won’t miss anything by waiting for the DVD release.
