Social Animals follows the story of three young people who have either found fame, looking for fame, or have become infamous due to social media.  The documentary shows how quickly one’s life can change with a simple picture uploaded to Instagram.

The documentary has some interesting subjects and shows some of the darks sides of Instagram.  However it fails ask the question, is this the correct way to seek out fame or is this type of fame sustainable?

I never felt any type of connection or empathy for the three main subjects.  If you are searching for a documentary about the trials of social media, I suggest “The American Meme”, “InRealLife”, and “We live in Public”.  All three of these explore deeper issues with social media.
